Dr. Ferro was invited by The Lancet Public Health to provide a commentary on a study by Katriina Heikkilä and colleagues on youth multimorbidity. Their paper “Preterm birth and the risk of multimorbidity in adolescence: a multi register-based cohort study” links preterm birth and risk of complex multimorbidity, including the co-occurrence of physical and mental health conditions, in adolescence.
Dr. Ferro’s commentary, “Understanding multimorbidity early in life takes a step forward” highlights the importance of the work being done on youth multimorbidity. He also emphasizes the importance of prioritizing coordinated care for individuals born premature, as well as a continued focus on efforts to seamlessly integrate physical and mental health care for children and adolescents.
